Jason McAvoy, one of the founders of Coming Home Hospice, has over 25 years of experience in hospice care, including 20 years managing residential hospice homes. His role at the Tippett Home in Needham and the DeRham Home in Cambridge (formerly known as the Chilton House) uniquely positioned him to establish Coming Home Hospice. In envisioning our future residential hospice home as the heart of our services, Jason drew from his extensive experience with former patients, recognizing the vital bond they share with their pets. That's why our hospice home will be pet-friendly, allowing patients to have all their family members, including cats, dogs, and parrots, by their bedside. This approach helps reduce anxiety and fosters a more comfortable environment during their final days.

Additionally, Jason's many years working for non-profits have made him acutely aware of the waste of resources. He is committed to running a group that is lean on management and high on direct caregivers, ensuring that the focus remains on providing the highest quality care. Jason is also dedicated to making Coming Home Hospice a place where people are proud to work, and enjoy what they’re doing. Where we are kind and compassionate to the staff, and create an environment where we maintain the highest standards by holding each other accountable regardless of position.

Coming Home Hospice co-founder John Budris came home to care for his 90 year-old father in 2005, after a long career as an educator, broadcaster and journalist. It was not the first time. Ten years earlier he cared for his mother in a similar way in the last year of her life.

Coming Home Hospice co-founder John Budris came home to care for his 90 year-old father in 2005, after a long career as an educator, broadcaster and journalist. It was not the first time. Ten years earlier he cared for his mother in a similar way in the last year of her life.

For a baby boomer who saw his own parents, aunts and uncles do the same for family members, it seemed the natural thing to do, he explains.

“I have a fading photograph taken in the backyard right around World War I. My grandparents, my toddler father, two aunts and even the family dog are gathered around the garden on a summer’s day,” says John. “And all of them passed away in this very house on Ames Street, cared for by family, surrounded by their memories, and comforted by their pets.”

Providing this kind of personal, family-like care to those in the final days of their lives is exactly the vision co-founders John Budris and Jason McAvoy share.

“Honoring the legacy of this old three-decker where I grew up up, where my family literally began in the early 1900s, where so many other lives and families intersected, that is a privilege I hope to earn by making Coming Home Hospice part of Brockton’s forever future,” says John.

You matter because you are you, and you matter to the end of your life. We will do all we can not only to help you die peacefully, but also to live until you die.
